Ted Baker Fall/Winter17 Collection Styling

Hi everyone!

I know it’s been ages since I jumped on here, sorry! The summer holidays have were so long and now that the kids are back in school I wanted to get back on it.

I recently got contacted by Ted Baker to style some outfits for their Autumn/Winter collection which I was really excited about. Mainly because I’ve always loved this brand but also knew that it would be a little challenging to put an outfit together that was modest fashion ‘friendly’ or hijab  fashion ‘friendly’ with their collection.

For those of you that don’t know Ted Baker is a British luxury fashion brand for men and women with some gorgeous dresses and accessories amongst many other things and some really smart/casual menswear. The kind of outfits you’d wear to a British summer wedding or holiday season get togethers by a log fire. :)

So amidst all the cocktail dresses and knee length skirts I came acroos a floral jumpsiut with a design that was perfect in disguising any defined body curves (not too slim fitting) yet looked  feminine and structured at the same time.

There was one major problem though – It was short sleeved, meaning I had to cover up those arms! So I picked a cardigian that was fully knitted along the sleeves and appliqued all over at the front panels This meant that the floral design at the front was not entirely covered up and peeped through the open pattern.

I wore it together with some suede Karen Millen stapped sandals and a plain sugar pink colured silk headscaf to complete the look.

These brilliant shots were taken by Hannah Lunt-Bell (@hannahluntbell) in the side streets of Muharraq in Bahrain.

Gosh Makeup

Hi everyone!

A while back I received some goodies from Gosh (Arabia) and wanted to share my review on it with you all.

I first heard about this brand here in the Middle East and more recently I’ve been seeing Gosh stands at various drug stores and beauty outlets in Turkey and the UK. It’s an affordable brand and is mostly found in large hypermarkets and department stores here in Bahrain.

I remember initially purchasing their bronzers and blushers a while back but never repurchased again. (Don’t know why).

I didn’t really know much about the brand, but later found out that it’s Danish and that it uses natural ingriedients, it’s paraben free and cruelty free. All good things we like to hear from this industry, so here it goes.

These are the products in all:-

IMG_4735

It included a Prime and Refresh Illuminating roll on for the eyes, a Skin Perfecting Illuminating Primer, a Mascara, a Setting Powder, Lipstick, a Lip Pencil and an Eyeshadow Palette.

Prime and Refresh Illuminating Roll On

This is something I’d never really thought of using before as I’ve only just gotten into the habit of using eye creams!. A primer that illuminates and refreshes, that it does! The cooling effect of this roll on is really soothing, and the thin gel like consistency allows it to absorb nicely into my skin. I’ve used it under heavy and light makeup and although i can’t say it would replace my Mac Paint Pot in Ochre, it’s definately one to use when your skin is feeling super dry and thirsty.

Primer Plus Illuminating Skin Perfector

IMG_4652

Now this is something very exciting! Illuminating? Mmm not really sure about that but skin perfecting? Oh yes! I’ve been using this straight for almost a week now with various types of foundations and BB creams and I just love it! I have quite large pores especially on the frontal part of my face and the formula of this is quite amazing. It not only minimises pores but also reflects or diverts the light away (I think that’s the science behind the ‘illuminating’ part). The texture is not like the sillicone based ones at all, it’s slightly more grainy/fine powdery like which gives a matte finish.

IMG_4653

IMG_4655

I’d be glad to use this on good skin days with a light dusting of powder and bronzer on top. perfect for during the summer.

Prime n Set Setting Powder

An all round good setting powder that has worked beautifully on top of my foundation, even during flash photography, with no ‘flashback’. Smaller than some setting powders, brilliant for when travelling.

9 Shades Shadow matt eye shadow palette (To Be Cool in Copenhagen)

Another product that I found great to use! Highly pigmented shades with gorgeous grey and nude tones that are true colours, They are easily blended and you can mix all shades together which is just genius.

These were all with just 1 stroke of colour so you can see the intensity of the tones in each colour.

Classic nudes, intense smokey eyes, chocolate shades… these eye looks can all be created with this palette.

Lipstick and Lipliner

IMG_4656

IMG_4660This matt lipstick in 010 ‘Smoothie’ and lipliner pencil in 001 ‘Nougat Crisp’are both a beautiful shade of what I like to call petal pink.

IMG_4661

The liner is ever so slightly deeper than the lipstick and when worn together they both very pretty.

Boombastic Mascara

Now I like my mascaras to have a bit of moisture but unfortunately this mascara didn’t. The only thing I can say that liked about this mascara was the wand, the bristles were shaped in a swirled sort of way which captured easch very well. Maybe it was my lashes (!) I’m not quite sure if I just had a bad lash das (if that’s even possible), but I’ll keep using it and keep you guys updated on this particular one 😉

Safiye Ekiz Tunic

Hey everyone!

May 13-!4 2016 was Istanbul Modest Fashion Week organised by Modanisa in Turkey. It was a fantastic two days filled with inspirational designs and collections from designers all over the world. It included a variety of pop up stalls and vendors and one of my favourite design houses was that of Safiye Ekiz’s.

Elagantly designed tunics, trousers and trench coat style pieces were all very appealing to me, and this hot pink tunic was just calling out my name! Light, floaty and modestly designed, paired with a pair of slim fit white trousers and a pair of statement heels it made for a classy yet comfortable ensemble.

This particular tunic has a front panel which can be styled in 3 different ways,

Wide leg jumpsuit

HI everyone!

I collaborated with one of my favourite fashion brands Karen Millen and The Domain Hotel in Bahrain a couple of months ago for a sky high fashion shoot on the 36th floor at The Vie lounge.

Choosing the outfit was left to me and I wanted to create a different look that was suitable for modest fashion and yet looked smart and good enough as an ‘occasional’ outfit.

The jumpsuit was a halter neck so I chose a short blazer to smarten up the look and picked a pop of colour for my scarf.

The fabric was a gorgeous floaty silk and the bottom half of the jumpsuit was wide leg that was gathered at the waist, it fell down like a skirt not showing any shape or form so that short blazer worked a treat!

Derma Fillers

Hi everyone!

It’s no secret that aging can take a toll on our skin, this can show in the form of wrinkles, lines, and folds, and can potentially have a negative affect on our appearance.

I certainly have felt this impact recently especially these last 2 years. (I”ll be 41 this year).

As a make up artist I had noticed the plumpness of my skin and definition of my facial structure was taking a more downward turn. Yes! Gravity had finally hit me!

I’ve not really been an advocate of cosmetic surgeries/procedures nor one to oppose it. I’ve always just sat happily on the fence watching both sides.

As of recent, after months of surfing online and watching countless YouTube videos along with many other things, the procedure of Derma Fillers came up.

How does it work?

Derma fillers are a naturally-derived or synthetic material known as hyaluronic acid that is directly injected into skin with the aim of plumping that area to the point where any wrinkles, depression, or folds are gone. Depending on the type of filler, the effects can last anywhere from six months to two years, possibly even longer.

It can be used to plump thin lips, smooth out vertical lines around the edges of the lips/mouth, in augmenting cheeks to enhance their shape, and to fill out hollows in the under eye area.

The under eye and ‘laugh lines’ areas were of a specific concern for me, so after a lot of asking around and research I decided to see Dr. Salil Bharadwaj at Bahrain Specialist Hospital in Juffair.

I had a very thorough consultation with him where he explained all the elements of the procedure which gave me a lot of confidence to go ahead.

How was it done?

First of all a numbing cream was used to numb the area, which took about 40 minutes to take affect.

The technique he used was done by injecting a cannula at the inward part of the apples of my cheeks aiming it into the tear trough area under the eye. The laugh lines were also done with the same procedure injecting in from the lower cheek area. This is done to minimise bruising.

I wasn’t too painful, I just felt the initial prick of the needle and from there on it was like feeling a slight “pushing” and “pulling” sensation.

I was very scared, I must admit but Dr. Salil talked to me throughout the procedure reassuring me that all was going well and handed me a mirror to see the progress.

The amount injected was 0.3ml each in all 4 areas- under both eyes and around the mouth/laugh lines.

It took about 20-30 minutes in total, and I was surprised with how quick it was.

The following day was a slightly different story! I felt a little sore and swollen which I was told was normal. Washing my face felt wierd and it felt tender to touch.

As this was all so new to me I called Dr. Salil to explain my symptoms, he reassured me that this was quite normal and advised me to lightly massage any swollen areas.

I went about my day as normal and certainly by the end of day 2 almost everything had settled down. There were absolutely no bruises.

I went out on day 3 and received so many compliments saying how “refreshed” I looked. I didn’t think that people would notice so soon!

That evening I applied make up on for the first time since the procedure and everything looked amazing. Especially on my under eye area. The concealer didn’t sink in because the skin was so much more plumper.

After about a week I went to see Dr. Salil for a follow up and he said that everything looked great. The fillers had settled in nicely and looked very natural. Looking natural was something that I stressed on from the very beginning, and was very pleased with the result.

Overall it was a very positive experience and I would recommend to anyone who’s thinking of having it done, to go for it – just wish I had done so sooner!

Floral Waistcoat

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share this recent outfit of the day post with you all where I styled a floral waistcoat I got from Istanbul.

It’s nice to sometimes layer lose and comfy pieces with a semi-structured piece. In this case I put this look together with a pair of wide leg trousers and a long tunic shirt with my long waistcoat. I wore a pair of nude brown suede heels and a soft pink plain coloured hijab.

Nimue Skincare

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my current favourite skin care routine with you all.

Last summer I turned 40, and I had noticed a lot of changes with my skin.
It had become considerably dry recently with bouts of ‘oily skin’ days and started to look dull.
After asking around and on recommendation I consulted a dermatologist. I went to see Dr.Rana at Dr.Rana’s Aesthetic Clinic in Riffa, Bahrain.
We discussed my current regime and I gave her a brief history of how my skin has been.

She put me on to a special facial booth type machine which systematically took pictures of my face from various angles. It analized such things as elasticity, collagen, sun damage, bacteria build up and lines and wrinkles.
She recommended that I use a brand called Nimue.

The Nimue Starter Kit

IMG_1582

Products inside:-

Cleanser, Toner, Moisturiser, Sun Protection 40 SPF, Purifier (to treat breakouts), Gauze wipes, Exfliating Enzyme.

IMG_1584
These are what I needed to get me started.
I had my own routine up until now which was quite simple. I’d use various different brands for diferent things and go with what I felt suited me best, but I never really felt that it had significantly improved.
I took in the current products that I was using and showed them to the consultant and to my surprise a lot of what I was using were not the right products for me.

My exfoliator was too harsh for my skin and was actually aggrevating it more than doing it any good by over drying it which in return was making my skin feel like it needed to produce more oil; hence the oily patches. My cleanser was too drying, and the only thing that I was doing right was the Tea Tree oil that I was using for my breakouts. (Yes breakouts, even post 40 we can sill get them!)
It’s been almost 12 weeks and my skin has improved a huge amount. It feels more supple, less dry and a lot smoother.

Since then I’ve also had 2 Hydra Facials (my Snapchat viewers would know  more about this) :) which she said would really complement my new skincare regime.
Wow! What a difference. Not only does it make you feel like you’ve had the deepest skin cleansing done but also leaves you with baby soft smooth skin.
Since my new treatments and using Nimue I’ve had a lot of compliments about my skin. so I wanted to share this with you.
I’ve changed my mind about skincare a lot recently, I truely believe that every skin type is different and reacts differently to various ingredients and products therefore a ‘tailor made’ approach to skin care is essential.

Desert walk

Hi guys! It’s been a while i know. I’ve been so busy with my family and being away at Christmas, on top of that I’ve just gotten over a nasty cold.

But enough of all that!

The weather in Bahrain has been quite cool lately so out came my fully covered shoes, boots and light weight jackets.

My scarf was from Vakko in Istanbul which I bought a few years back. They still have these types of long scarves in every store and there are many different colours to choose from.

IMG_2899

My jacket was from Zara that i picked up in the winter sales on Boxing Day in London and fell in love with the jacquard two tone print. It’s a little puffy, kind of like a bomber jaclet but with a tailored look to it.

Heavenly Spa Signature Massage – The Westin Hotel Bahrain

Hello!

Last week I visited the Westin Hotel here in Bahrain for a little pampering and well a deserved massage (it’s always well deserved right?) :)

Located within the main City Centre Mall, The Heavenly Spa is very convenient for us hardcore shoppers after a long day.

FullSizeRender

Up on the 3rd floor of the hotel, this place is a hidden gem in a peaceful and tranquil setting.

I was greeted by my therapist and was given a mini tour of the facilities. I was delightfully impressed, especially by the authentic Turkish Hamam.

After getting into my robe it was time to get started. My therapist asked all the relevant questions beforehand and determined the right amount of pressure to apply during the massage for me.

image6

It was based on a Swedish massage using White Tea oil that had a warm and comforting smell. She then used a heated compress which was made up of a pouch filled with a mixture of tumeric, cinnamon, tamarind, ginger and rock salt. It felt quite hot when she applied the pouch but felt extremely soothing at the same time too.

image2

The whole treatment lasted an hour and I felt totally relaxed yet energised afterwards. She knew how to de-stress my back especially my upper shoulders where I tend to be tense most of the time.

image3-2

My favourite part of the whole experience was the smell of the White Tea. It was absolutely divine. I love citrus/floral scents so this just hit the spot.

image4

I was later told that White Tea oil is the signature aroma of all Westin hotels throughout the world including their shampoos and body washes.

After my massage I entered an area dimly lit, super quiet and relaxed in my robe whilst drinking a soothing hot cup of ginger tea.

image5

Who would of thought one could have this experience whilst at the mall? What a lovely escape on a busy shopping afternoon. I know where I’ll be next time the kids want to watch a movie! Absolute heaven.

Easy Jeansy

Hello!

A nice and easy look for you all today.

It’s still quite hot here in Bahrain so light and breezy tops are still hanging on the ‘easy access’ side of my cupboard.

Add a pair of slim fitting jeans, flats and a soft leather bag, this is one of the most easiest looks I go for.
